The way you do a pulldown will dictate which area of the back is working with the greatest amount of tension. Even though pulldowns are traditionally known to hit the lats, if you're not executing them properly, they'll do more for the upper back. So when doing pulldowns, minimize lower back arching, use a narrow or neutral grip, and prevent your elbows from flaring outwards.
